A day in the death of a tree

This old oak tree in Shinfield is due to be cut down today, despite protests from local residents. More pictures on my Flickr photostream.

Update: more about the campaign to save the tree (which is 200 years old) and the rural setting around Shinfield here.

Latest news: according to BBC News, the tree has been granted a reprieve as it is a home to a protected species of bats.
