Shinfield oak tree update - 2
Still standing! More tomorrow?
Update: and it was still there on Friday (day -2). 'Any time now' says the residents' website.
Second update: Thursday 2 June is D-Day now.It seems the tree is right in the middle of a proposed bypass for Shinfield.
Third update: The tree is gone.

Empire of Light
I have always loved the painting by Magritte in the Peggy Guggenheim collection, Empire of Light. Jackson Browne's Late for the Sky record used the same idea for the cover, 'if it's allreet with Magritte'.
So I'm just starting out to see how I can replicate the effect ... I need to get a tripod probably sorted and play around with exposure and colour temperatures and light sources. The first two pictures are 'found' scenes using walls for tripods. More over the summer if I can get it to work - use the Empire of Light tag.

Shinfield oak tree update - 1
This really is the last day of the Shinfield Oak Tree - even the campaigners to save it acknowledge this. I photoblogged the 'last day' twice before with my cameraphone ... here is a better quality picture of this 200-year-old tree. Lost to a road widening scheme on the southern edge of Reading. More pictures on Flickr.
Update: The tree is gone.

Headington storybook tree
This is being created in Headington's Bury Knowle Park, in Oxford. The carving will depict characters from the books of C S Lewis and J R R Tolkein, and the work should be completed by the end of the month. More pictures here. - see also the tags below.

It was difficult to photograph these delightful glass figurines (based on Picasso drawings) at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice. I thought they were fabulous.
